R.I.P. MAGNET Contributing Editor Jud Cost

Longtime MAGNET contributing editor Jud Cost has passed away. His nickname was Professor, partly because he looked like one, but mostly due to his vast knowledge of the history of not only rock ‘n’ roll, but also jazz. We used to brag to people that we had someone on our staff who saw both John Coltrane and the Sex Pistols live. Jud started writing for MAGNET in 1994 (we paid him immediately by accidentally leaving his byline off his story), and he was an invaluable part of the magazine in the years that followed. But much more importantly, Jud was the kind of friend you were forever grateful you had in your life; you always felt better after talking to Jud. Jud had been ill for a while, but his death is still a shock. Although we have so many great stories involving Jud from the past three decades, right now, we’re going to just process and accept the fact that he is no longer with us. Our heartfelt condolences to Jud’s family, especially his wife Jenifer, who we have known and loved almost as long as we did the big guy. R.I.P. our favorite rock ‘n’ roll bum.
