Normal History Vol. 786: The Art Of David Lester

Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 41-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.

A while back, someone in Argentina wrote to me to ask if I’d answer questions for what seemed to be a radio station. Emailed questions with written answers. Yes, it seemed a bit funny to me as well, but they caught me on a day when writing seemed to be a good idea, so I answered their questions and because they told me not to hold back, I went long. Like, a-third-of-a-book long. Take that, random person!

I figured it was for a blog associated with a radio station, but now I think it’s just a blog with the word “radio” in it. It’s all been translated to Spanish, of course, but the headline calls me a “different girl,” which, at this point in life, to be called a girl is a bit strange. To have entered into telling someone my life story (or a third of it) without knowing if they have an audience of 20 or 2,000 is something that occasionally happens. That they asked and I answered is possibly a good thing.
