Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 41-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
There was engine rain last night, but I didn’t think about the term, which might come from driving rain, the kind of rain that is loud in a way that drowns out other sounds like an angry cat or a noisy neighbor. Minor inconveniences compared to the kind of rain it would take to extinguish the flames of a war protester who self-immolates.
