When songs are barometers of social discontent hinged to a specific era, it’s impossible to know what their significance will be 40 years later. In this case, some of the lyrics from “Strong White Male” will likely appear in Kathleen Hanna’s new book Rebel Girl when she writes about music that inspired her way back then, thus bringing the song into current-day awareness in an era, 40 years later, when the same social discontent persists.
