MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Heart Of Pine’s “Movin’ On” Video

If Heart Of Pine singer/guitarist Steven Bagwell had to pick one thing he loves most about his band’s new single, “Movin’ On,” it would be the sweet bit of studio magic he describes here:

“We had Betsy Franck and Ansley Stewart doing the backing vocals, and during the last chorus, I had them do the normal harmonies you hear on the first and second chorus,” he says. “Afterward, I had them do their own takes kind of free-for-all style. When mixing, Matt Tamisin and I overlayed the two tracks and created the vocal masterpiece you hear at the end there.”

Cofounded by Bagwell and guitarist Travis Richardson, the Athens, Ga., quintet is set to release its second studio album, Southern Soul Revival, tomorrow on HoP Records. “Movin’ On” is a preview of what you can expect from this road-tested Southern-rock outfit—one that’s unafraid to embrace and emulate big-name influences like the Allman Brothers Band, Waylon Jennings, Little Feat and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Over the past five years, Heart Of Pine has shared stages with Turnpike Troubadours, Drivin N Cryin, 49 Winchester and others.

“The part about the shotgun shell in the first verse of ‘Movin’ On’ actually happened to me in high school,” says Richardson, getting back to the subject at hand. “I accidentally gave my girlfriend a hickey. When her dad saw it, he was pissed. The next time I showed up to her house, he said he wanted to have a talk. He took me into the living room, pulled a shell out of his pocket, tossed it to me and told me, ‘The next one travels faster,’ if he sees anything like that again.”

We’re proud to premiere the video for Heart Of Pine’s “Movin’ On.”
