MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of The Fleshtones’ “The Consequences”

A band synonymous with the more flamboyant brilliance of New York City’s legendary East Village music scene, the Fleshtones are anything if not durable, remaining pretty much intact since the year of the U.S. Bicentennial. Available November 1 on Yep Roc, It’s Getting Late (… And More Songs About Werewolves) is their first new music in four years. As you might expect, it sticks close to the garage/punk “super rock” formula that’s been the band’s bread and butter for almost a half-century.

“After 48 years, we’re finally figuring out how to play our instruments and make records, but not to the extent that it’s boring,” says frontman Peter Zaremba. “It’s still exciting and a challenge.”

When pressed for specifics, guitarist Keith Streng had this to say about the Fleshtones’ new single: “The Consequences are a band traveling town to town playing all the current hits, which are songs I don’t dig but are popular with the masses.”

Apparently, that’s news to Zaremba: “I didn’t realize the Consequences were a cover band … Well, then the song is a loud warning: We won’t let this happen to us! We tend to just go along as if time was infinite. But it’s not—at least for us. We must do what we can before it’s too late.”

We’re proud to premiere the Fleshtones’ “The Consequences” video.
