MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Kappekoff’s “Reliving The Past” (Feat. Busch)

Kappekoff’s Magnus Falkenberg first passed EDM muster in 2016, when his debut single, “All Day Long,” reached the second slot on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 list. Back in his home region, the track was nominated for hit of the year by revered Nordic music zine Gaffa. As a point of reference, the Oslo-based bassist/producer’s genre-bending merger of dance music, pop, jazz, improv and atmospheric electronica has something in common with the output of nu-disco pioneer Lindstrøm.

For Kappekoff’s latest single, “Reliving The Past,” Falkenberg collaborated with Thomas Busch. Both were members Proviant Audio, a stylistically amorphous collective founded by Norwegian musical prodigy Mathias Stubø that grew to as many as 10 members at one point.

“We’ve written a lot of music together over the years,” says Falkenberg of his decade-long relationship with Busch. “This time, he brought the initial sketch to me. From there, we collaborated to shape it, with me pulling it more into my style of production.”

Kappekoff’s latest release, Old Spring, is a sequel to 2023’s more hip-hop-focused New Spring. Tracks like “Reliving The Past” find Falkenberg playfully feeling his way through unexplored territory with help from Busch and other Norwegian acts, including Ragnhild og, Neon Ion and Scandinavian rap sensation Pasha.

“My influences range widely, from the electronic and jazzy vibes of Taylor McFerrin and Jordan Rakei to the more upbeat side of Little Dragon and Jungle,” says Falkenberg. “On this album, I gave myself permission to experiment more freely. I wanted to capture something inspired by the evening.”

We’re proud to premiere Kappekoff’s “Reliving The Past.”
