Max Wareham’s latest single did some sitting before it finally found its legs with the help of a bluegrass legend. “I wrote it awhile back,” says the Boston-based banjo ace. “Then I took it to Peter Rowan, who proceeded to disassemble it completely and put it back together in a way that made more sense. The song brings me back to my childhood—camping in the woods of New York state and longing for a simpler time.”
Rowan also produced “Lonesome Blues,” along with the rest of Daggomit!, Wareham’s self-released debut LP, which is out February 21. Recorded by Grammy-winning engineer Sean Sullivan, the album features a roster of celebrated bluegrass players, including guitarists Chris Eldridge and David Grier, fiddle player Laura Orshaw and mandolinist Christopher Henry.
A student of banjo masters Bill Keith and Tony Trischka, Wareham is a member Rowan’s Bluegrass Band, playing on the Grammy-nominated 2022 album Calling You From My Mountain. He’s also touring with his own band, Max Wareham & The National Bluegrass Team, featuring Canadian mandolin sensation Jean-Baptiste Cardineau. And during his downtime, he’s been collaborating with banjo legend Butch Robins on a history of bluegrass.
We’re proud to premiere Max Wareham’s “Lonesome Blues, I’m Coming Home.”
