Consider this your formal introduction to Frollen Music Library, a sample library and production house out of Melbourne, Australia, that creates organic, sample-based productions and compositions for TV and film. FML’s Darvid Thor, Henry Jenkins and Hudson Whitlock are part of a vibrant indie-soul/R&B community that includes Karate Boogaloo, Surprise Chef, the Pro-Teens and other acts you’ve likely never heard of. Fueled by the vintage grooves of the ’60s and ’70s, the collective leans heavily into live ensemble recording and analogue production techniques.
“Rock Candy” is one of 28 tracks on 001-015. Available March 28, the compilation spotlights FML’s first 15 sample packs.
“The track sounds like your grandpa with a snapback on,” says Thor of “Rock Candy.” “It’s a little slice of downtempo soul inspired by some of our soul heroes: Syl Johnson, Menahan Street Band and Marcia Griffiths. If it doesn’t make you wanna do The Worm on some lino, it’ll at least make you wanna Stanky Leg.”
We’re proud to premiere Frollen Music Library’s “Rock Candy.”
