MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Son Of Buzzi’s “Spiegelebene” Video

Son Of Buzzi is the sobriquet of Sebastian Bischoff, a Swiss musician whose ears are tuned to the frequencies of the Takoma school of American guitar music. Since 2019, he’s made a series of recordings for his own and other micro-labels, released on vinyl, tape and CD-R. His forthcoming album for the Shrimper label, Ein Hase, Ein Phönix, Ein Schwan (translation: “A Hare, A Phoenix, A Swan”), however, is Son Of Buzzi’s first proper CD.

Bischoff filmed a video for Ein Hase track “Spiegelbene” (“Mirror Plane”), which was completed by Shrimper’s Dennis Callaci (Refrigerator). Says Bischoff, “This shows my neighborhood in Zurich: Werdinsel, the Europa Bridge, the Limmat Valley and my balcony. These landscapes accompany me every day, while going to the groceries, on my way to work or simply while walking along the river or sitting on my balcony and watching the cars go by. ‘Spiegelebene’ has multiple layers of meaning for me, which are reflected in both the visuals and the music. Not just for this track, but for the entire album. For the album, I had the idea of a journey during which you change, and on the way home, you are no longer the same. Transformation and alchemy. ‘Spiegelebene’ is a part of this journey. The landscape is reflected in the river, mirrored by the manipulation of the film material itself. At the same time, there are asymmetries in the video: nature and the city, for example. And in the music, in the picking patterns. But the whole idea is, of course, very personal and impressionistic.”

MAGNET is proud to premiere the video for “Spiegelbene.”
