Like most artistic types, Field Trip Day’s Alexa Lynn Fecca has had a few run-ins with assholes. “Rhino” addresses that hot-button topic with indie-pop aplomb and a killer chorus.
“It’s about the experience of being bullied and the emotional complexity that comes with it,” says the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter. “It explores the ongoing power struggle with someone you both fear and, in a twisted way, revere.”
Field Trip Day made a first appearance this past fall with its self-titled debut EP. “Rhino” veers away from Field Trip Day’s more straightforward, soul-kissed alt-rock toward a joyously rhythmic, synth-focused sound.
“The song captures the resilience it takes to stand your ground time and time again,” says Fecca. “But, ultimately, it ends with the realization that, in trying to defeat the bully, you’ve become just like them.”
We’re proud to premiere Field Trip Day’s “Rhino.”
