If there was ever a co-headliner that measures up (so to speak) to Hedwig And The Angry Inch, it’s Dagger Polyester. The Los Angeles-based artist’s brazenly theatric fusion of punk, glam and art rock has landed them on stages with Yves Tumor, Weyes Blood and the Lemon Twigs. Polyester even snatched up the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson to produce their debut LP, Perversion For Profit, due August 1 on Silver Arrow.
And while Robinson’s bluesy-rock pedigree may seem like an odd match for a gender-fluid force of nature that counts Bowie, Roxy Music, Adam Ant and Kenneth Anger among their heroes, it’s a non-issue on “She Kissed The Gun.” Bombastic, irreverent and catchy as hell, the song revisits the 2003 murder of Lana Clarkson at the hands of Phil Spector. The video was co-directed and conceived by Polyester with longtime friend and collaborator Sammy Lamb.
“We explored themes of fantasy and obsession, using artificial-looking sets to portray both deception and a state of psychosis,” Polyester says. “I’m exploring and dissecting these same themes through many different lenses on my upcoming album.”
We’re proud to premier Dagger Polyester’s “She Kissed The Gun” video.
