MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of sundayclub’s “Bannatyne”

A product of rural Manitoba, sundayclub’s Courtney Carmichael and Nikki St.Pierre have found their creative mojo in Winnipeg, the province’s historic capital city. Inspired by the likes of Day Wave and fellow Canadians Metric, the duo negotiates a dreamy safe zone from its northern perch—one that conveys an undeniable sense of place as it skirts the hazy edges of indie pop and shoegaze.

“Bannatyne” and its self-directed video find their energy source in the pulsing lights and rampant creativity of Nuit Blanche, a nighttime celebration of contemporary art held in Winnipeg’s Exchange District.

“In the video, the streets seem packed with people, which isn’t typical there on most nights,” says Carmichael. “The shots we managed to catch where I’m weaving in out of the crowds—that’s quite rare. What makes Nuit Blanche so special is that it’s truly a limitless night of exploration, which lines up perfectly with the sentiment behind the song.”

We’re proud to premiere sundayclub’s “Bannatyne.”
