Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 42-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
It’s true. Political art tends to be very specific. Actual words are frequently added to visual art to make sure it’s understood. Yet, as David proves here, there’s something to be said for images so powerful that it seems like they won’t be misinterpreted. Inspired by David’s ability to convey a myriad of ideas and emotions in his drawings, I’ve posted an online art show of some of my political paintings from the past 10 years or so.
