It wasn’t the greatest supermarket by any means. But it had the best branding Fulton Lights’ Andrew Spencer Goldman could’ve ever imagined.
“They might as well have named it ‘Be Here Now,’” says the leading light for a project that seems forever in motion, geographically and otherwise.
Emerging from Washington, D.C.’s DIY scene more than 20 years ago, Goldman has ushered Fulton Lights through four albums and multiple EPs with a strikingly fluid sound that references everyone from David Byrne and Folk Implosion to Mark Lanegan and Dälek. The title track from an album coming sometime this fall, “Best World” was born out of the same sessions that produced 2025’s Well The Night Has Come EP. But with its pummeling rhythm section, swirling guitar and keyboard textures and larger-than-life horns, it sounds like something altogether different. Much like the signage that inspired the title, “Best World” is breathtaking in a dilapidated way.
“When I’d pass by, I found that the sign would momentarily challenge my tendency to focus on the future or the past,” says Goldman. “Then, one day, it was painted over, and the end was near. I guess what I’m saying is: Be thankful for what you have.”
We’re proud to premiere Fulton Lights’ “Best World.”
