“I spent most of my adult life in groups I felt unknown and unwelcome in,” says Brother Bird’s Caroline Glaser, touching on the impetus behind her latest single. “You know it in your body, but it takes a while for your brain to catch up.”
“Pariah” is a revelatory first taste of The Lodge In Miller County, Brother Bird’s forthcoming album, due September 25 via Easy Does It. Produced by Manchester Orchestra frontman Andy Hull, the LP showcases Glaser’s gift for presenting life’s awkward moments and private humiliations as storm clouds in a vast indie-pop dreamscape that feels deeply personal yet somehow universal. The Manchester Orchestra connection began when Glaser worked closely with Hull and band co-founder Robert McDowell on her 2021 debut, Gardens. After collaborating with producer Owen Lewis (Old Sea Brigade) on 2024’s Another Year, she reunited with friend/mentor Hull for The Lodge.
“There’s a subtle nod to compliance and people-pleasing in the verses, but the choruses are strong and defiant,” says Glaser of “Pariah.” “There’s a confidence in this character that gets more and more apparent as the song plays. It’s like the kid who isn’t welcome at the popular table, but then realizes the popular table actually totally sucks.”
We’re proud to premiere Brother Bird’s “Pariah.”
