With an expansive arrangement that mirrors its central message, “Spinnin’” is a striking testament to personal growth’s inability to follow a straight line, arriving through cycles of disappointment and fulfillment, loss and renewal. It’s a theme that runs throughout the Arcadian Wild’s fourth LP, Make It Out Alive (Rip Stitch/Soundly).
“In more ways than one, the song is the culmination of our 13 years together as a band,” says guitarist/vocalist Isaac Horn. “Not only are we experimenting with new instruments and production, but lyrically, it tells a story that hits very close to home—of what it really takes to make music together for so long.”
Recorded in Nashville with producer Micah Tawlks (Judah & The Lion, Brook & The Bluff), Make It Out Alive stakes out new sonic territory for the group’s already rich blend of folk, country, bluegrass, choral music and pop. More significantly, it’s the first album to feature songwriting collaborations between Horn, mandolinist Lincoln Mick and fiddler Bailey Warren.
“We’ve been through some cold and dreary seasons together that felt like they’d never end,” says Horn. “We’ve had some incredible high points that made it all feel worth it, only to come crashing back down again. But when you’re committed to something—really committed—that’s just what happens. The ebb and flow of failures and victories are just part of it.”
We’re proud to premiere the Arcadian Wild’s “Spinnin’.” Look for Make It Out Alive on August 14.
