In our house, when either my mom or dad said, “I’m painting!” that meant they were absolutely beyond being approached. Not that there was much need to ask them about anything, but if someone did, “I’m painting!” was 10 times more powerful than, “I’m busy!” It was more like an expectation that all citizens of planet earth should walk on tiptoe until they were finished painting.
