Sometimes that certain someone in your head is more compelling than the person standing right in front of you. Lila Forde captures that iffy scenario on “Fantasies,” a woozy, soulful meditation on the thrill—and danger—of letting your imagination get the best of you.
“It’s about wishing with your whole body you could know what it’s like to be with that person,” says Forde.
A 2023 finalist on The Voice, Forde followed her fifth-place showing on season 24 with debut LP Vessel in 2025. “Fantasies” will be among the tracks on her forthcoming self-released Life Can Still Be Sweet, a follow-up that has her chasing a Laurel Canyon-inspired vibe. Raised in Seattle, Forde appears to be fully embracing her new hometown of Los Angeles. Co-directed with her longtime friend Sam D’Alessio, the video for “Fantasies” cleverly upends reality in a way only Hollywood can.
“You see the girl riding a motorcycle through the city with a mysterious man … until we realize he was never there, and she’s got to drive the bike herself,” says Forde. “By the end, the video falls apart and you see she was just in a studio the whole time—living a fantasy.”
We’re proud to premiere Lila Forde’s “Fantasies.” Look for Life Can Still Be Sweet October 2.
