MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Deathdotgov’s “Laces (Redux)”

Phoenix-based quartet Deathdotgov has built its sound around chaotic rhythms, jagged guitars and an apparent disregard for genre boundaries. But “Laces (Redux)” finds the group in a more vulnerable mood.

“It’s a personal song for us,” says frontman Colton “Coba” Westerman. “It seemed like the right call to choose it for an acoustic rendition.”

In reimagining “Laces” for the deluxe edition of their debut LP, the members of Deathdotgov could’ve simply unplugged the guitars and called it a day. Instead, they invited additional musicians into the creative process.

“Expanding on it in this format felt therapeutic for us, and it was super-cool getting to recruit some of our friends to join in on keys and sax,” says Westerman.

We’re proud to premiere Deathdotgov’s “Laces (Redux).” It’s part of the upcoming CD and digital release of the band’s 2025 self-titled debut. Out December 11 via Lost Future, the deluxe edition features six bonus tracks. A new Deathdotgov album is planned for 2027.
