MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Dazies’ “Still Life”

Fascinated by the one-sided relationships between fans and celebrities and the stories of people falling in love with ChatGPT, Eddie Gore aspired to inhabit that mindset on “Still Life,” the latest single from Dazies’ forthcoming debut, Eyes Repeating.

“I wanted to empathize with their feelings and how they might manifest,” says the leader of the Brooklyn-based project. “I imagined it wouldn’t feel much different than any other relationship.”

Inspired by the offbeat alt-pop sensibilities of Beck, Gorillaz and the Postal Service, Eyes Repeating represents a creative reset for Gore following the dissolution of his previous band, Future Generations. Working with longtime collaborators Mike Sansevere and Dylan Wells, he developed the album over three years, often during concentrated six-hour sessions at Sansevere’s Hoboken, N.J., studio.

Recorded by Ricky Berotti at Brooklyn’s Red Convertible Recording, Eyes Repeating takes a hard look at Gore’s continuing fascination with the complex relationship between identity, authenticity and the ways people present themselves to the world. “Still Life” brings those concerns into sharper focus in a haze of parasocial infatuation.

“But at the end of the day, it’s artificial—and that’s the feeling that can’t be shaken,” says Gore.

We’re proud to premiere Dazies’ “Still Life.” Eyes Repeating is out October 23 via Killphonic.
