MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Davey Harris’ “The Legend Of Satoshi Nakamoto”

Satoshi Nakamoto is a name that’s confounded cryptocurrency enthusiasts, journalists and conspiracy theorists for years. In January 2009, Bitcoin’s elusive creator(s) officially debuted a technology that inspired a controversial financial movement, then disappeared without ever publicly revealing their identity. To Davey Harris, it sounded like the makings of a pretty good song.

“Crypto is a weird universe filled with many perspectives, much skepticism and loads of conspiracies,” says the Buffalo-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. “Why not write an indie-rock anthem all about it?”

Part historical fiction, part modern folklore, the song has an unconventional co-writer in Josh Lange, an online influencer and host of CryptoMondays Global web community. Harris and Lange first performed the song together last year at Bitcoin Palooza in New York City’s Times Square. It’s now receiving its official release.

“I like to tell stories through my music,” says Harris, who was also the cofounder and percussionist for Buffalo indie outfit the Tins. “It’s always satisfying to fill a song with as many layers of depth as possible: sonically, emotionally, creatively and from a message-building and storytelling lens.”

Harris has always been drawn to subject matter listeners might not otherwise encounter. His 2024 EP, Animals Vol. 1, highlighted endangered species and conservation efforts. And while the protagonist is now (supposedly) human, the underlying approach remains much the same with “Satoshi Nakamoto”: Find the living, breathing thread in a complicated topic and give it life through melody, humor and a little creative license.

We’re proud to premiere Davey Harris’ “The Legend Of Satoshi Nakamoto.”
