Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 43-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
So much happened in 1992, the year Dovetail came out. Back then, we were playing more than 50 shows a year on multiple tours, writing and recording regularly, releasing singles on various labels. We were at some kind of peak of being accepted and included, headlining and selling out shows here and there, and opening for larger bands. Riot grrrl was underway, and the following year we’d begin touring in Europe regularly for a few years.
Also in 1992, a cover of our song “Lois Wrote About The Farm” was played on John Peel’s BBC radio show.
