Color Green is a jam band that writes actual songs, as opposed to grooves disguised as songs. Among the year’s most impressive albums, the hazy and addicting Fool’s Parade is out today on New West. Founded by guitarists Noah Kohll and Corey Madden and steered by bassist Kyla Perlmutter and drummer Corey Rose, the Los Angeles quartet bills itself as a true democracy. That explains the lack of attribution as they wend their way around the new LP, one song at a time.
1) “Coronado”
“A love song turned ’70s rocker that pays homage to the ones who came before. A tale of figuring out the next move in life … traveling through the lows, which often become highs.”
2) “Four Leaf Clover”
“Beauty starts from the stem, but thorns can draw blood. Weighed down by the luck of the draw, only to be undone by the sight of your own navel.”
3) “Fool’s Parade”
“Dirt bellows from the knee of your jeans as you awake in a self-made cacophony of rubble. The end is near.”
4) “When The Clouds Roll In”
“Washed-up and rugged in the light of a new day rising. Dylan wondered how it really felt, already knowing that the circle fits the square.”
5) “God In A $”
“Nostalgia embodied in a drug-filled haze. At times, it’s best to look back at signs of simpler times—and simpler highs.”
6) “5:08”
“A conversational piece, wherein the thought of loss echoes through the backyards of remembrance. Fault isn’t blame; fate is yet untouched. Hold the ones close to your heart.”
7) “Kick The Bucket”
“Grief is subjective but always rings a familiar bell. Can we get through this? Can we move forward? There’s no easy answer, but there is hope in the race of time.”
8) “Ball And Key”
“Dreams have never been Lee Hazlewood’s friend, and George Harrison’s guitar must always weep.”
9) “Hazel Eyes”
“Brian Wilson cruising down the 101 in a Chrysler LeBaron … falling in love for what feels like the first time, enmeshed in the ambiguity of the color of your eyes.”
