Sometime between its minimalist krautrock and tribal beginnings in 2004 and, well, now, Michigan collective Nomo has gotten mixed up in primal Fela Kuti blowouts and party-starting instrumentals. Aided and abetted by producer Warn Defever (His Name Is Alive), the title track from the new Invisible Cities (issued this week on Ubiquity), whips up a frenzy of clusterfunk guitar, horns and afrobeat percussion; it’s like the Budos Band on a Motor City acid trip. Nomo, at times nine or 10 members strong onstage, heads out for a West Coast tour in May.
