As the leader of self-professed psychedelic/gospel/folk band These United States, singer and former journalist Jesse Elliot lends his gravelly voice to upbeat melodies and thoughtful lyrics. The band has toured with another non-genre-specific group, Jukebox The Ghost, and has a delightful video of the two getting into a silent-movie-style brawl. These United States’ sophomore album, Crimes (United Interests), is out now, packaged in an environmentally friendly CD case.
