Take Cover! Crystal Antlers Vs. Bob Dylan

When is a cover song better than the original? Only you can decide. This week: Crystal Antlers take on Bob Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue.” MAGNET’s Edward Fairchild pulls the pin. Take cover!

Crystal Antlers build walls behind the Bob Dylan classic, then hammer it into place. The original version is full of the wry, smug detachment that became Dylan’s trademark, but Jonny Bell sings it like he actually feels it. It’s over.

Seriously, WTF? Crystal Antlers?!?!

If you’re going to make this any kind of competition, put the 13th Floor Elevators version up against the original.

Crystal Antlers?!!?

I’ll take The Byrds’ version of the song, although I should qualify this by saying I have not heard Falco’s cover of it, which, you know, could be effing amazing.

Guys, this isn’t Creem. This is Magnet! Crystal Antlers were a surprise pick, I never heard them, but I like it and I come here for finding out about new music. This is a fun feature!
