Film At 11: Rusko

Young, influential dubstep producer Rusko (a.k.a. Christopher Mercer) has been destroying clubs across Europe for a few years and has just recently begun bringing his massive sound across the pond on a consistent basis. It’s important to highlight this news, even on a surface level, because the video for single “Hold On” (featuring Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman)—taken from the Mad Decent-released OMG!, which arrived in April—chronicles how penetratingly moving his sets play out on a nightly basis. Moving with a quick clip between shots of Mercer performing under a cascade of lights and fog to rooms filled to capacity and casual, behind-the-scenes footage of the producer’s hectic life on tour, the treatment easily excites, making us slightly jealous of the consistency with which the U.K. bangs out prolific bass artists. As long as folks like Diplo and his Mad Decent crew keep bringing them to our shores, I suppose we’ll fare just fine.
