Film At 11: Black Francis

1920’s The Golem: How He Came Into The World, a silent, black-and-white movie directed by Paul Wegener, was the last in a series of three films by the German expressionist. In 2008, the San Francisco International Film Festival approached Pixies frontman Black Francis about scoring the film and performing it live for that year’s fest. Francis said yes, and the result was a one-off performance as well as a limited-edition double album. On November 16, Francis is issuing The Golem Rock Album, an hourlong rock opera derived from the double LP. The album will only be available from Amazon and Francis’ website.
