Film At 11: The Fruit Tree Foundation

The Fruit Tree Foundation is a Scottish supergroup led by Rod Jones (Idlewild) and Emma Pollock (Delgados) and featuring James Graham (Twilight Sad), Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit), Jill O’Sullivan (Sparrow And The Workshop), Karine Polwart, Jenny Reeve, Alasdair Roberts and James Yorkston. The nine musicians got together to write and record for a few days last year in a rural Perthshire farmhouse. The results became part of the 2010 Scottish Mental Health Arts And Film Festival, which aims to raise awareness of mental health and well-being through the arts. The album, First Edition, was exclusively available at concerts in Edinburgh and Glasgow, but now the Chemikal Underground has issued it. Says former MAGNET guest editor Pollock of the collaboration, “Music takes you out of yourself, and you can become engrossed in its mood and momentum. This change of perspective can be a wonderful thing, and I love the fact there’s so much music out there for us to dive into any time we want to go somewhere new.” Watch five videos from the recording sessions below, and download an mp3 of First Edition track “I Forgot The Fall.”
