It doesn’t get much more joyous than this. “Lawn,” from Collections Of Colonies Of Bees‘ Giving album, the experimental rock band’s sixth since 1998 and first for Hometapes, wastes no time launching off into an exuberant post-rock bliss replete with impossibly warm tones, asymmetrical percussive splashes and subtle electronic touches that imbue a feeling of soaring contentment. All without saying a word. Giving, which is out August 2, is the first we’ve heard from the Bees since they joined Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon as Volcano Choir in 2009 for the critically acclaimed Unmap.
