From The Desk Of Her Space Holiday’s Marc Bianchi: Heisuke Kitazawa

This week’s release of Her Space Holiday‘s 10-track, self-titled album marks the end of the one-man musical project that Marc Bianchi started back in 1996. Fittingly, HSH’s final album is also the first on the Austin-based Bianchi’s No More Good Ideas label. While he has some live dates set to support the LP, the genre-defying musician mostly plans for the album to be the closing statement from HSH, who over the past decade and a half has also remixed tracks by the likes of R.E.M., Bright Eyes, Elastica and the Faint. Bianchi can now add MAGNET guest editor to his already-impressive resume, as that’s what he’ll be doing all week. Read our brand new Q&A with him.

Bianchi: Heisuke Kitazawa is one of the most talented and genuine people I know. Though his illustrations seem very whimsical at first glance, they ultimately reflect an honesty that is becoming increasingly harder to find in a world full of illusions. In between all of the vibrant colors, and grand landscapes lurks an unsettling truth. A crack in the facade the suggests all is not well in this wonderland of ours. But this doesn’t make his work hopeless by any means. It is more so an acceptance of the role darkness must play for the light to exist. This has become increasingly more evident since the tsunami hit Japan in March. His latest pieces are gorgeous and devastating. Though Heisuke has already received a lot of international acclaim, including several art shows all of the world, covers features in Giant Robot, etc., I feel like his time of recognition still hasn’t arrived yet. But it’s coming.
