MP3 At 3PM: Atmosphere

Underground hip-hop duo Atmosphere is gearing up for a six-date tour across Minnesota in February, to the delight of residents frequently cursed by 7,000 feet of annual snowfall and bad professional sports teams. In anticipation of the interstate tour, the Twin City boys released the track “Somebody, MN,” a collaboration with fellow rhyme-slingers Kill The Vultures, Big Quarters & MaLLy. While Atmosphere is often compared to fiery rap artists like MF Doom and Sage Francis, “Somebody, MN” is a warm, gently bubbling hot tub of a song, with a chill, old-school, Will Smith in “Summertime” cadence flowing over an ambient, movie-soundtrack score. The bear-rug cozy single arrives just in time to provide relief in the midst of a mid-winter Minnesota blizzard.
