From The Desk Of Amanda Palmer: “Jive Translator,” Updated

Amanda Palmer has been a busy lady. It’s been four years since her last record, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, and in the interim she’s been dabbling in all sorts of projects: business (you can read about her huge Kickstarter success), music (channeling her musical roots for her new album, Theatre Is Evil) and fun (adapting Neutral Milk Hotel for a high-school production). Palmer will also be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new feature on her.

Palmer: I’m not sure what happened to the original jive translator, the one from 2003, but I did find this, which seems to be… close. So, back in 2003, Brian (the drummer from the Dresden Dolls) showed me this during a rehearsal break one day, and we began inserting Dresden Dolls lyrics. When the jive translator threw up “the orange man’s got yo’ ass” as the last line of the most serious and angsty song on our first record, we were hooked. We spent hours and hours feeding Dresden Dolls lyrics into the jive translator. if only it had been 2012, and we had had this new version, which also includes automatic translations into Elmer Fudd, Cockney, redneck, pig Latin and, most wonderfully, Swedish chef.
