From The Desk Of Mree: My Favorite Tea

MreeLogoMree’s second self-produced album, Winterwell, is a passionate blend of heartfelt acoustic folk and plush electronic textures, brought to life by her rich, multi-layered vocals. Mree’s lush harmonies float in and out of the mix like perfumed clouds, drawing you into a dizzying swirl of muted colors and ambiguous emotions. Armed with a guitar and an effects pedal that allows her to loop her vocals into an ever-shifting collage of sound, Mree is able to reproduce most of the album when she plays live. The New Jersey multi-instrumentalist will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new feature on her.

BubbleTea

Mree: I love taro-root bubble tea, but have never been able to find some whenever I go to the Asian food store. With some experimentation, however, I came up with a taro-root-but-not-really-taro-root tea. All you need is:

Jasmine tea leaves
Hazelnut creamer
Silk/milk
Sugar
Boba (tapioca pearls)

Literally all you do is steep the tea leaves for a few minutes, drain them out, put some of the hazelnut creamer, silk/milk (my lactose-intolerant self prefers silk) and sugar to your liking. Let it cool and add ice as well as boba bubbles if you want it cold. Tastes just as good warm. I swear it tastes like taro root … to me at least. Worst case scenario, you’ve got a delicious milk tea drink that doesn’t really taste much like taro, but it sure tastes good!
