MP3 At 3PM: Ha Ha Tonka

HaHaTonka

From the Ozarks in southern Missouri, the men of Ha Ha Tonka have stepped out of the Show-Me State and into the spotlight, finding their niche putting indie Americana records on alternative country label. The fourth album, Lessons out September 24 via Bloodshot, is inspired a 2011 Maurice Sendak interview on NPR’s Fresh Air With Terry Gross. The band’s new single “Colorful Kids” clearly takes inspiration from children’s books: It’s bright, happy and, as the name suggests, colorful. A deeper listen will reveal more solemn undertones, much like Maurice Sendak’s work.
