From The Desk Of Phox: New Glarus Brewing Co.

In interviews, the members of Phox have a conversational style that reflects the Wisconsin band’s music—it’s playful and thoughtful, serious in its ambitions, but seriously fun when all is said and done. With folk-like delicacy, jazz-like precision and a very indie sense of irreverence, the group’s self-titled Partisan debut is one of the best underground-pop records of the year. These high-school friends will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new feature on them.

NewGarus

“Only In Wisconsin!” is this craft brewery‘s slogan. That’s true, mostly. A couple years ago, I caught wind of a story someone had “smuggled” a couple kegs of their flagship beer, Spotted Cow, into a Wisconsin bar in NYC. The culprits were quickly apprehended and fined. Of course, I can’t speak for New Glarus, but the real reason Spotted Cow and most other craft beers are confined by state lines is a strong beer lobby designed to keep macros, well, macro. How Machiavellian (Macrovellian?!)! Check out the doc Beer Wars for more fun beer conspiracy theories.
