In interviews, the members of Phox have a conversational style that reflects the Wisconsin band’s music—it’s playful and thoughtful, serious in its ambitions, but seriously fun when all is said and done. With folk-like delicacy, jazz-like precision and a very indie sense of irreverence, the group’s self-titled Partisan debut is one of the best underground-pop records of the year. These high-school friends will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new feature on them.
Clearly, the holy grail of cheeseburgers is Wisconsin’s own Culver‘s ButterBurger. But I get it. Cheeseburgers, pizza, hot-oil foot massages and other sensory pleasures are essential lossless situations, and comparing and contrasting is totally gratuitous. But for the sake of tribalism and pride and such, the Culver’s Bacon Deluxe is truly the most exquisite pleasure. It’s a bit of a smashed patty, but don’t let them fool you: The burger comes default as a double, and it’s not necessary. Upgrade to a single patty to save room for cheese curds. That’s a pro tip, y’all.
