From The Desk Of The Posies: Frankie Siracusa

Solid States is the Posies’ first new collection since 2010’s Blood/Candy, and the circumstances surrounding its conception couldn’t have been more different than those of its predecessor. First and foremost were the double-gut-punch deaths of two longtime band members: drummer Darius Minwalla in 2015, and bassist Joe Skyward earlier this year. There was also a divorce and a remarriage for Jon Auer, who, like Ken Stringfellow, now lives in France. Life-changing events aside, the Posies are back with yet another great album. Stringfellow and Auer will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week.

Auer: Of the multitude of changes in the world of all things Posies that have occurred relatively recently, the best and perhaps most positive has to be the addition of our new drummer Frankie Siragusa to the fold. I knew he was talented before I’d even met or spoke with him, but I had no idea how good he would be in a live situation or how well he would fit personality-wise. It’s rather remarkable, really, as he’s such a good fit for us, and it’s no easy spot to fill in our band after all the years and also the recent loss of our long-time drummer Darius Minwalla last year (which shook us to the core). And, it’s not just us who feel good about him, either, and I think it’s safe to say that we’re not drinking our own Kool-Aid when it comes to our assessment of him. Fans across the globe have responded with exceptional enthusiasm and approval. Frankie is also similar to both Ken and me in that he’s a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and engineer as well having logged countless hours in his L.A.-based studio known as the TheLAB (where he mixed and played on Ken’s Danzig In The Moonlight album and also played on and mixed songs for the latest Posies record). Now he can add touring in Europe and the U.S. with us to his resume, and it seems obvious this is the beginning of something good. In my estimation, Frankie is the real deal, a complete package. Kudos.
