In 2014, we named Ex Hex’s debut, Rips, the best album of the year. And while the new It’s Real (Merge) lacks the first LP’s surprise factor, the 10-track record is every bit as essential as its predecessor. But where these ladies—Mary Timony, Betsy Wright and Laura Harris—really shine, however, is from the stage of your local rock club. Lucky for us, the D.C. trio just blew the roof off Philly’s Union Transfer, with support from openers Moaning and the Smarthearts. MAGNET photographer Chris Sikich was there for the good times.
