Triptides’ Glenn Brigman is serious when he describes “Connections” as an exploration of the “electrical nature of consciousness expansion.” At the very least, the latest single from the Los Angeles group’s upcoming album, Shapeshifter, is a mesmerizing listen.
“The music is based on the vibrations the human spirit can achieve by letting go and moving with a natural, spiritual flow,” says Brigman.
Triptides has been going with the flow since its offhand beginnings in Bloomington, Ind., where Brigman helmed a series of home recordings with friends and roommates. Over the past 14 years, he’s taken firm control of the creative reins and made Triptides his own, bringing a hazy continuity to the group’s forays into Doors-y psychedelic rock, lilting Laurel Canyon folk, blissed-out Beach Boys classicism and spacey jazz pop.
By and large performed, produced and mixed by Brigman, Shapeshifter is available June 13 via Flatiron/Label 51. Until then, we have “Connection,” which aspires to do nothing less than close the gap between the personal and the universal.
“The lyrics themselves describe a wild evening, caught in a storm with a lover,” says Brigman. “Both souls find that the energy of the universe can be shared and multiplied infinitely.”
In all seriousness, we’re proud to premiere Triptides’ “Connection.”
