Tidelands’ “Toaster,” off We’ve Got A Map (Redgummy), is enticingly paradoxical. On one hand, it feels like a deeply serious song, opening with an ominously filtered voice anticipating an inevitable sell-out. On the other hand, it draws its name from the line, “All my life, I’ve been a toaster/I want to be the toast.” Lyrical content aside, however, “Toaster” is musically epic, complete with a horn section and time change.
